Specialist Affordability: Options to Address Excessive Fees

Overview

The Australian Government is committed to making sure Australians have transparency, choice and affordable access to private specialist medical care. However, we know Australians are paying increasingly higher fees to see medical specialists, and many are delaying or missing care as a result.

The Government is currently undertaking work to examine variation in fees for specialist medical services. The outcome of this consultation will inform our development of methods to identify "excessive" fees for specialist medical services, and identify opportunities for intervention to protect patients.
