Tobacco Act Compliance Strategy
Overview
Public consultation on the draft Tobacco Act Compliance Strategy (the Strategy).
The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing (the department) is seeking feedback on a draft Compliance Strategy to guide how it will approach compliance and enforcement under the Public Health (Tobacco and Other Products) Act 2023 (the Tobacco Act), which commenced on 1 April 2024.
Effective compliance and enforcement are critical to ensuring the objects of the Tobacco Act and the Public Health (Tobacco and Other Products) Regulations 2024 are met as intended. Compliance and enforcement help ensure the Tobacco Act framework improves public health by encouraging people to quit, or not start, smoking and use of tobacco products.
The department is seeking public feedback on the Strategy to guide its approach to compliance and enforcement under the Tobacco Act.
The consultation period is open until 11:59pm AEST on Wednesday 3 June 2026.
The consultation package includes:
- a consultation paper
- the draft Tobacco Act Compliance Strategy.
