By way of retention- the health system needs to be more flexible in regards to rostering in hospital system- many people leave as junior nurses because of disenchantment with rotating shifts, patient acuity, and lack of work/life balance. Support at the beginning of a career as a junior nurse may encourage people to remain in the profession. Being that nurses are predominantly female , they tend to become mothers who rely on childcare and should not feel compelled to leave the profession when rostering does not consider family.
