one big issue for my practice is the limiting by pharma when applications are made to PBS for new therapies. for some reason these can only be initiated and prescribed by specialist doctor. Then in the coming months the medication becomes available to GP Drs to commence the therapy. For NPs it remains as CTO (continuing therapy only) it never eventuates that the NP can INITIATE the therapy - in my specialist practice this is so limiting when you have to get a medical colleague - who often has less understanding of the whole process - to write a script that an NP should be able to write - this is infuriating and not the best use of the system. Surely Specialst NP roles can prescribe and initiate therapies within their scope.
