Public consultation to help inform a possible ‘commissioning’ approach for part of the SIL market

Who is collecting your personal information?

Your personal information is being collected by the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing (the department/we).

Why does the department collect your personal information?

We collect your personal information to manage and respond to your participation in this consultation and to help inform policy development on possible future approaches to Supported Independent Living (SIL) commissioning.

Your personal information may also be used for related research, analysis, reporting and consultation activities. In doing so, we will handle your personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles.

How does the department use your information?

The department may use technology (including Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools) to analyse and summarise de-identified consultation or survey responses, including any non-confidential response you provide.

The department will not enter your personal information into an AI tool and will check all AI outputs are de-identified before use or disclosure. This includes the publication of consultation summaries.  

What would happen if the department did not collect your personal information?

If you do not or are unable to provide your personal information the department will not be able to use it to inform policy development on possible future approaches to Supported Independent Living (SIL) commissioning.

Access to and correction of your personal information

The department’s privacy policy contains information about how you may access and seek correction of your personal information.

Disclosure of personal information to third parties

The Department will not share any personal information with third parties. We may disclose de-identified submissions to any organisation contracted to the department to complete this work, the National Disability Insurance Agency and the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. 

Privacy complaints

The department’s privacy policy contains information about how you may complain about a breach of the Australian Privacy Principles or the Australian Government Agencies Privacy Code and how the department will deal with complaints.

Overseas disclosure of your personal information

We will not disclose your personal information to any overseas recipients.

Consent

By providing your sensitive information to us, you consent to the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing collecting a range of your personal information about you for the purposes indicated above.

Personal information that may be collected about you includes whether you identify as a person with disability, are an NDIS participant, come from a Culturally or Linguistically Diverse (CALD) background, live in a regional, rural or remote area of Australia, or identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Asexual or Aromantic or other groups of sexuality, gender and bodily diverse people (LGBTIQA+). Providing this information is optional.

If you are providing the department with personal information about another individual, unless you are authorised to consent on their behalf, you will need to inform that individual of the contents of this notice, and obtain their consent to the department collecting their personal information.
