Better access – sharing pathology and diagnostic imaging reports to My Health Record by default
1. What do you think will be the impact of diagnostic imaging and pathology providers having to share reports to My Health Record by default? This includes the impact on:
Consumers and/or carers:
Reduced need to have tests/imaging repeated when next HCP does not have timely access to recently completed tests/imaging results.
Increased transparency to facilitate improved health literacy and shared decision making.
Increased transparency to facilitate improved health literacy and shared decision making.
Healthcare providers:
More timely access to pathology/imaging provided elsewhere, to facilitate timely decision making, reduced duplication, and therefore a more financially sustainable healthcare system - which might allow higher reimbursement for services currently under-funded.
The broader healthcare system:

Less administrative burden for applicants and administrators using pathways (MSAC, PBAC) that require proof of diagnosis / disease severity markets to meet specific eligibility criteria.
Increased ability to audit restricted MBS/PBS items.

2. What does the government need to consider when developing requirements to share diagnostic imaging and pathology results to My Health Record? Particularly consider:
List government considerations when developing requirements to share diagnostic imaging and pathology results to My Health Record
Patients may misinterpret information, catastrophise their interpretation of the implications of a result if not discussed in an timely and appropriate manner with a HCP.
Patients may not wish for information to be available to all HCPs (but they have the option to not have a MyHR or to restrict individual documents).
More results doesn’t necessarily mean better results. However, more results better enables observation of trends and isolated anomalies.

There are currently so many barriers to information being available between HCPs in different settings eg Private Radiology clinic results not instantly visible by hospital Emergency Department if patient first presents in primary care, and is referred to secondary care following X-ray.
Relevant pathology results may not be readily visible to HCPs at transitions of care.

Faster access – removing delays to accessing pathology and diagnostic imaging reports in My Health Record
1. What do you think would be the impact of consumers having immediate access to diagnostic imaging and pathology reports in their My Health Record? This includes the impact on:
Consumers and/or carers:
Reduced need for duplicated tests.
Reduced costs associated with repeating tests.
Reduced costs associated with “follow up” appointments where a simple result with pre-explained implications negates the need for post test appointment/intervention.
Improved health literacy

Improved health literacy
Healthcare providers:
Reduced need to repeat tests because previous test results not available/visible.
Increased need to explain test results in plain English and contextualise them into future decision making.

The broader healthcare system:
Financial savings, Time savings, more engaged consumers.
2. What resources should consumers have access to when they view a result in My Health Record? This question is about how to support consumers in a model of care where they have near real time access to their pathology and diagnostic imaging results.
List the resources that consumers should have access to when they view a result in My Health Record?
Links to evidence based patient level information eg LabTests Online (or equivalent).
Information PRIOR to testing of how certain tests results may change treatment plan so patient understands the relevance and is less likely to misinterpret / catastrophise.

3. What safety features could ensure follow-up clinical care happens promptly?
