Questions about how service provider performance is assessed against the aged care draft standards
10. What are the features of the existing assessment and monitoring process that should be retained?
Existing features you want retained
Assessment against transparent outcome based criteria
11. What are the features of the existing assessment and monitoring process that need to be changed?
Existing features that need to be changed
The assessment process is too heavily dependent upon documentation that in reality many staff and organisations do not follow. The assessment needs to be more reflective of review of actual performance ... observation of practices, feedback from residents and relatives.
The over reliance on 'spot checks' is draconian and counter productive. No other sector is subjected to such nonsense and there is no evidence to reflect that unannounced visits achieve anything. The overwhelming majority of aged care homes have remained compliant and accredited and would do so without unannounced visits which are merely a political point scoring exercise.

14. Will your preferred option/s maintain appropriate safeguards for consumers? Please explain your answer.
Text box appropriate safeguards for consumers
Any accreditation process will provide appropriate safeguards. No-one questions the difference between hospital accreditations, even though the options are vastly different.
It is more important for the agencies to act when serious non-compliance is identified and not continually allow poor performing approved providers to continue on in the industry.

15. Will your preferred option/s decrease the regulatory burden on aged care organisations? Please explain your answer.
Regulatory burden textbox
I would hope so but this is dependent upon what criteria is included, what evidence is required, the frequency of monitoring and the attitude of the accrediting agency.
