Application for a Non-Scheduled Device

Overview

Thank you for your interest in submitting a Non-Scheduled Device Request.

A service provider must attain prior approval if they wish to fit a device that is:

  • Not listed on the schedule of approved devices

  • A remote control that is over $200

Approval of a non-scheduled device is only granted for clients with exceptional circumstances such that there is no suitable device on the fully subsidised schedule. The request must include supporting documentation in addition to concrete clinical justification for the requested device.

Please ensure you have the following documentation ready to upload as you complete your application:

  • Audiogram

  • Device quote from the device manufacturer

  • Device specifications

Additional supporting documentation may be required depending on the requested device and the client’s circumstances.

It is expected that an application for a ‘non-scheduled device’ is clinically assessed within 5 working days of receipt of all required information.

Please review the Fully Subsidised Device Schedule and Partially Subsidised Device Schedule for a list of the current scheduled devices.

Exclusion criteria

  • Requests will not be approved if the device has already been fitted
  • Clients eligible for specialist services are not eligible for a non-scheduled device unless unable to access CSO services through Hearing Australia. This includes clients seeking an implanted bone anchored hearing aid.
  •  Veteran Gold Card holders, Veteran White Card holders (hearing-specific conditions) or their spouse are not eligible for a non-scheduled device. Please seek approval through DVA for hearing aids outside the fully subsidised schedule.
