Copy of Request for Revalidated Service proposed changes - July 2024

Closes 19 Jul 2024

Important Information

A voucher entitles a program client to a set range of subsidised services. In rare situations a client may need a service that has already been used on their voucher. If requirements are met, providers can request a Revalidated Service. A service provider should only request a Revalidated Service if the client’s circumstances have changed significantly and this service is urgently required before their current voucher expires.

A request for a Revalidated Service will only be processed if all mandatory fields (marked with 'Required') are completed and submitted, including any required supporting evidence.

Practitioners must select and nominate the service (reassessment or refitting) the client requires. Only the nominated service is assessed to be provided to the client as a revalidated service.  There are two reasons for requesting a Revalidated Service:

  1. Reason A – Reassessment is required due to a significant deterioration in hearing (thresholds have permanently deteriorated by 15dB or more at two or more frequencies between 500Hz and 4000Hz in at least one ear).
  2. Reason B – Refitting: Client requires, and is eligible for a refitting under the Eligibility Criteria for Refitting (ECR)  guidelines. A device fitting has already been claimed against the current voucher.

Revalidated services as with all services provided through the program are subject to monitoring for compliance with Program Requirements.  Revalidated Services are only allowed when the legislative requirements have been met and the request approved by the program, prior to the service being provided and claimed. Requests for a Revalidated Service due to exceptional circumstances cannot be approved. Refitting requests for devices provided less than 12 months ago will be assessed for the success of that fitting.

Practitioners should be aware that the need to have improved technology, matched devices or where there are general changes in the client’s life circumstances (e.g. spectacles, caring roles) are not valid reasons for refitting under the program and are not a recognised ECR.

Revalidated Services are valid for 6 months only from the approval date. (An expiry date will be advised on your outcome email).  Approved Refittings must be provided with the same device style and catergory as approved in your request.
