Review of Australia's Sports Integrity Arrangements - Developing a Government Response
Overview
The Government welcomes the Review of Australia’s Sports Integrity Arrangements (the Review) – the most comprehensive analysis of Australia’s sports integrity arrangements ever undertaken. The Review found that Australia is a world leader in the sports integrity field, and has an international reputation as a strong advocate for effective integrity protections. However, the Review also found that there is a rapidly evolving threat environment that Australia must position itself to address.
The Government is committed to an effective sports integrity framework that is responsive to both current and new and emerging threats to sports integrity, and will carefully consider each of the Review’s 52 recommendations and come forward with its response in due course.
The Review was commissioned by the Government in response to the growing global threat to the integrity of sport - recognising that a fair, safe and strong sport sector free from corruption is inherently valuable to athletes, sporting organisations and the 14 million Australians who participate in sport annually.
The Review offers 52 recommendations across five chapters:
- The current national and international sports integrity threat environment and foreseeable challenges
- Combating manipulation of sports competitions
- The capability of the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority and Australia’s sport sector to address contemporary doping threats
- A National Sports Tribunal
- A National Sports Integrity Commission
The Sports Integrity Review Taskforce has been established to explore the implications of these recommendations, and is seeking feedback from stakeholders within the sport and wagering sectors, as well as interested community groups and individuals.
The diverse perspectives, experiences and knowledge of all stakeholders are valued and will help shape the Government’s response, including the development and implementation of appropriate measures to enhance Australia’s sports integrity arrangements.
Two versions of the Report of the Review of Australia's Sports Integrity Arrangements are provided below. One is a PDF, and the other is an accessible Word version.
