NDIS Evidence Advisory Committee Consultation December 2025

Overview

The NDIS Evidence Advisory Committee (EAC) was established in an ongoing capacity by the Australian Government in response to the NDIS Review. The EAC will make recommendations to government on the safety, suitability and value for money of supports for NDIS funding, drawing on the best available evidence

The EAC will not assess the activities of disability support workers, medical care, aged care, or general consumer protections. The EAC will not make recommendations about individual businesses or individual commercial products. It will not make recommendations about eligibility or plan details for individuals. Please read the Frequently Asked Questions page for more information.

EAC members have expertise in a wide range of areas related to disability supports including research, clinical practice and lived experience. You can read more about the committee on the EAC website.

For the second round of assessments to be considered by the EAC, we would like your input on the following supports:

  • Art Therapy
  • Functional Electrical Stimulation
  • Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy as a Disability Support
  • Music Therapy
  • Prosthetics with Microprocessors
  • Therapy Suits

If you would like to read more about each support, please see this summary document. An Auslan version of this summary is also available. Easy Read questions, links to Auslan questions and the full question set are available below.

Public consultation will be part of the assessment process for all supports that the EAC will review, although the structure and content may be adjusted based on what we learn from this process. Consultation on the next round of supports will take place in early 2026.

Art and music therapy – independent review by Dr Stephen Duckett AM

The NDIA released the Independent Review into pricing for music and art therapy supports, conducted by Dr Stephen Duckett AM on 10th September 2025. In his review, Dr Duckett recommended the EAC examine art and music therapy for specific cohorts. If you made a submission to the review by Dr Duckett, you can email your submission to disabilityevidence@health.gov.au. You are also welcome to complete the current survey using the link below.

People who responded to the survey on Music Therapy between 25/11/2025 and 17/12/2025 may not have been shown questions relating to use of the support due to a technical error. We apologise for the inconvenience. The missed questions include things like how often you use the support, why you continue to use the support or why you stopped or what you use instead, who provides the support and any other context you wish to provide about use of the support. If you submitted a response for Music Therapy between those dates and would like to comment on support use, please email  disabilityevidence@health.gov.au to let us know and we will provide a survey link to the missing questions.

Why your views matter

The Government wants to make sure the NDIS provides safe, effective and high-quality supports that maximise the benefits for people with disability. The assessment for each support will include a summary of relevant and best-available evidence. We will also give the EAC a summary of what you tell us. The EAC will use the evidence and the consultation summary to give advice to Government about the safety, efficacy, and cost-effectiveness of various disability supports.

We are seeking input about:

  • who uses or might use the support
  • how and why people use the support
  • other supports people may use to seek similar outcomes.

We would like to hear from people who:

  • currently use the support
  • have previously used the support
  • would like to use the support in the future
  • support or care for people who use the support
  • use another support for the same purpose or a similar purpose
  • do research on these or similar supports
  • are otherwise interested in providing feedback.

This includes:

  • people with disability
  • families and carers of people with disability
  • service providers and clinicians
  • people who do research about disability or disability supports
  • other interested people.

We know that people with disability have been asked to contribute to a lot of consultations recently. We value your ongoing contribution and have tried to avoid asking questions similar to those that have been asked in prior review processes. Please note, we aim to use the preferred language for the groups we are working with; however, we know that there is not always agreement on what that should be.
