Food Regulation Standing Committee Consultation: Policy guideline on information requirements for prepackaged food sold online
Conclusion and Next Steps
FRSC is exploring a policy guideline on information for food sold online. This is to provide clear policy expectations on what information should be provided for food required to bear a label when this is offered for sale online.
This aims to ensure the increasing number of consumers shopping for food online have consistent access to similar information as those shopping at a physical store, to allow them to make safe and informed decisions. This is similar to the Codex Guideline on the Provision of Food Information for Pre-packaged Foods to be Offered via E-commerce (CXG 104-2024), adopted in 2024.
This policy guideline does not trigger a regulation but will be used to inform any future work on information requirements for prepackaged food sold online in the trans-Tasman Food Regulation system.
