The Department of Health and Aged Care (the department) is developing a new model for regulating aged care as part of the changes to improve the quality and safety of aged care in Australia.
We have released A new model for regulating Aged Care, Consultation Paper No. 2: Details of the proposed new model and are seeking views on the paper as part of an 8-week consultation period.
The paper proposes changes to how the sector works, including how providers enter the sector, the obligations that a provider must meet, and strengthened monitoring and enforcement powers for the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (the Regulator).
The department is hosting activities to support your involvement in the consultation, including a webinar on 9 May and a series of workshops to discuss the paper in more detail. You can find all the details on the paper, including a summary document and how to get involved on the Aged Care Engagement Hub.
We invite you to register your interest to attend workshops planned for June 2023. These workshops are an opportunity to discuss the proposed new model in further detail, including how the model will improve the quality of care for older people, and the provider registration categories and obligations. Details of the workshops will be provided to registrants closer to the date.
