A New Approach to Regulating Aged Care
Overview
The Department of Health and Aged Care is developing a new approach to regulating aged care (the new model) through a consultation process with the aged care sector, older Australians, their families and carers.
The new model will provide rules and guidance for aged care service providers, outlining what they are obligated to do to ensure the dignity, protection and safety of older Australians in aged care, and that they are receiving high quality care.
An overview of the proposed model is presented in Consultation Paper No.1 – A new model for regulating aged care.
We invite you to view the paper, provide your feedback and register your interest to attend Stage 3 workshops.
Alternately, you can request a hard copy of the paper by emailing: AgedCareRegModel@Health.gov.au.
A plain English version of the paper and a short summary sheet is also available to assist your participation in this process.
Please choose one of the following two options to share your feedback:
- upload a written submission (1500-word limit) OR
- complete the online questionnaire
Feedback closes on 10 October 2022.
Why your views matter
The Department is seeking your participation and feedback to co-design the new model through a staged consultation process.
In addition to the current paper, additional consultations will be published in the coming months and will include detailed papers, webinars and workshops.
Your input will be used to inform the design of the new model and to provide advice to government on its development and implementation.
We encourage all older Australians, their families and carers, providers and the broader sector to sign up to the department’s Ageing and Aged Care Engagement Hub to receive notifications of upcoming engagement activities.
You can visit the website to find out more about this program, or via www.health.gov.au/contacts/regulatory-strategy.
