Overview

In 2018, the Department engaged Siggins Miller Consultants Pty Ltd (Siggins Miller) to facilitate a range of consultation activities to inform the initial drafting of the next National Tobacco Strategy (NTS).

These included:

  • Targeted strategy development workshops and roundtable discussions;
  • Engagement with the Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) Advisory Group and the National Best Practice Unit TIS Advisory Unit to discuss the issues and approach to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander smoking in the next NTS; and
  • A public call for individual submissions which was open for six weeks, from 9 July to 17 August 2018.

All individual submissions and input from stakeholder workshops were considered in the development of the draft NTS 2022-2030. Outcomes from these consultations are summarised in the Consultation Report prepared by Siggins Miller.

The Consultation Report and individual submissions are now publically available on this Consultation page where consent to publish has been provided. Submission redactions have been made to remove personally identifying information, and at the request of some authors.

The views expressed in the Consultation Report and submissions are those of the individuals or organisations who submitted them. Their publication does not imply any acceptance of, or agreement with, these views by the Department or the Australian Government.
