Consultation on the draft National Aged Care Advocacy Framework

Closed 28 Oct 2016

Opened 16 Sep 2016

Overview

This consultation period is being extended to 28 October 2016.

Gathering stakeholder perspectives in the development of the National Aged Care Advocacy Framework is key to ensuring that the delivery of future aged care advocacy services continue to provide effective support to aged care consumers, including supporting them to have increased choice and control.

An extension to the consultation period will ensure stakeholders have an opportunity to play a significant role in the development of nationally consistent aged care advocacy services.

The Department of Health has undertaken a review of Commonwealth aged care advocacy services (the review) to identify how aged care consumers can be supported by individual advocacy to effectively access and interact with the aged care system.  The outcomes of the review will inform the redesign of the National Aged Care Advocacy Program (NACAP).

A key finding from the review is the development of a National Aged Care Advocacy Framework (the Framework) to support the delivery of nationally consistent individual advocacy services to consumers of Commonwealth-funded aged care services.  The Department is committed to working in collaboration with NACAP providers and key stakeholders in developing the Framework.

As a first step, the Department is seeking to gather early perspectives on the draft Framework, which sets out the proposed content and development process.  This feedback will inform the further development of the Framework

What happens next

Feedback will be considered by the Department and facilitate the development of the Framework in consultation with NACAP providers and key stakeholders.
