Suggestions - are organisational statements and requirements achievable
in relation to consumer outcome 1. Consumer dignity, autonomy and choice - Evidence should be required of residential care that they INVOLVE consumer in the development of their care plan and care plan review and demonstrate how the consumer is involved.

Text box - suggestions are draft standards measurable
It is still too easy for organisations to give very generalised responses and will be too easy for providers to demonstrate where they have achieved well, but not provide detail on the aspects they do not want to highlight attention to.

13. Are there any gaps in the draft standards? If so, what are they?

Multi-purpose services need to be included - currently they do not have to meet any aged care services and this is wrong. it is not clear in the document if these new standards apply to Multi-purpose services.

Specific suggestions about each draft standard

17. Do you have any specific suggestions in relation to draft Standard 2: Ongoing assessment and planning with consumers? If so, what are they?

Text box suggestions in relation to draft Standard 2: Ongoing assessment and planning with consumers
This should be made stronger for Residential care as they are been doing this well - they are required to do ongoing assessment but very rarely with the consumer and or representative. It needs to be made much clearer that res care services have to demonstrate this=. this should include evidence that the resident attend the care plan meeting. often they are done by staff without resident it attendance.. my experience also is that, when I ask for a care plan review they will not do it, but when they want to incorporate changes that they would like to implement, the care plan is updated and I am advised after the event only.

18. Do you have any specific suggestions in relation to draft Standard 3: Delivering personal care and/or clinical care? If so, what are they?

Text box suggestions in relation to draft Standard 3: Delivering personal care and/or clinical care
Minimisation of infection-related risks - residential care organisation that I am inovleved with insists on wearing gloves for any interaction with residents - surely this is not the outcome that the standard would be seeking . End of life care - the organisation should demonstate what palliative care services are made available and at what stage. again my experience - is that palliative care is not considered an option until the organisation itseld requests it and I had to fight very hard to get palliative care involved

19. Do you have any specific suggestions in relation to draft Standard 4: Delivering lifestyle services and supports? If so, what are they?

Text box suggestions in relation to draft Standard 4: Delivering lifestyle services and supports
the organisation should have to demonstrate that they : regular review of the lifestyle services and supports plan for each individual provide services to the most disabled/frail in the facility, at the same level to those who are more able to participate and demonstrate how they do this (not just offer once a week, or wheel them in and watch while others do more active participation)

21. Do you have any specific suggestions in relation to draft Standard 6: Feedback and complaints? If so, what are they?

Text box suggestions in relation to draft Standard 6: Feedback and complaints
the organisation should have to demonstrate evidence of an independent person is available to receive complaints.

22. Do you have any specific suggestions in relation to draft Standard 7: Human resources? If so, what are they?

Text box suggestions in relation to draft Standard 7: Human resources
use of volunteers - demonstrate what training and support they receive.
