15. What features of the existing assessment and monitoring process should be retained?

Retain assessment & monitoring processes
Unannounced spot visits are required so that facilities are shown in true light. Eg, when managers and staff are aware a visit from accreditors is planned it gives the staff time to fudge paperwork and clean up which gives a false sense of what is really going on.

16. What features of the existing assessment and monitoring process should be changed?

Change assessment & monitoring
The paperwork required as "evidence" that the appropriate care is given is time consuming and a waste of time as often it is incorrect or not filled out properly. It also takes up way too much of staffs time which comprises care of residents.

Tgere is a fear or reprimand and also that the complaint will not be followed up. Also a fear of things being "swept under the rug"

26. Do you have any suggestions for how complaints handled by the Aged Care Complaints Commissioner could be better handled?

Note: this question is included for organisations and those individuals who have not made a complaint

Additional comments

27. Do you have anything else that you would like to contribute to the Review?

Additional comments
I was employed as an associate nurse unit manager in a residential care facility for 15 years and i have left aged care nursing due to the total lack of ability to give the care the residents deserve due the increasing amount of paperwork required to "care" I also left because i was sick of working short staffed every single shift due to staff calling in sick because they are "burnt out" from the ever increasing work load and expectations placed upon them to care for 15 or more residents to 2 staff. I believe aged care desperately needs a total over haul so that nurses can provide excellent care to our elderly population instead of spending half the shift filling out paperwork!
